The Story Behind Garame

why we started

Because big laundry couldnt

Some laundry problems don't wash out. Not because we're all doing it wrong. Detergent was never built for them. We're fixing that.

The founder

You hope only you can smell it, right?

Mine were Brazilian Jiujitsu rashguards. Trained in different ones three nights a week, washed them, hung them in the sun. And still, halfway through each session, I'd catch that whiff and wonder if my training partners were being polite.

I tried the usual suspects we all have. Anti-odour detergents, vinegar, overnight soaks. The smell always came back.

I couldn't find a good answer, so I started a small business to make one, hoping others were looking too. Turns out they were.

It loosely translates to entanglement, from Brazilian jiu-jitsu positions. Inspired by Half Sumo Collective.

Who we are

Making it work. Figuring it out.

Steve started this thing. Lang owns the support and the details Steve misses. Pep is nearly seventeen and figuring out what he wants to do, maybe biomechanical engineering? Kenzie is fifteen and has opinions about everything from breakfast to Beyoncé.

All of its a work in progress. All of it's ours ❤️

Why we give

5% for Kenzie.

All things considered, Kenzie's doing well. She loves school, hanging out with the family, and getting out into the world wherever we can take her.

She was two and a half when she was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome, a rare neurological condition that almost exclusively affects girls. 5% of our profits go to the Rett Syndrome Association of Australia, funding the research that might one day give her back her voice.

Those cheeks!

why we do this

The ones polite society avoids.

The detergent aisle is all about "fresh scent" and "brilliant white."

The real stuff. The stains, the smells, the "has anyone else seen this" that had you on Reddit at 2am.

They're the ones we're built for.
